Another RC plane of the week, this time the AXN Clouds Floater – a brilliant fun model that’s cheap, tough and easy to fly. You can see just how easy they fly in this video which shows the maiden flight of Richard’s new AXN Floater. Later, Ron will demonstrate how tough (or not) they are in a spectacular fashion. These things can be bought from a number of online model shops including HobbyKing.com and HiModel.com Remember: not an ad, not a review, just the XJet RC plane of the week.

Hi i just watched your videos on how to build the axn floater, i also have one my self, truth be tld i also have a waco bi plane, however, im a little worried about flying it, as the waco lasted 7 secs in the air before crashing to the ground, all fixed now foam is great… i feel shamed to fly it and crash it again, but also the axn looks great with its wings and nose in one piece. but all that said if i was to fly it can give you any hints on how to balance it for flying thanks again mo

Or you could just buy the the Bixler kit as I did…. $11 2200kv motor, $3 9gm Servos, Carbon rod and all the rest and for the same price as a RTF AXN you will have a superior plane…..

Not much to be totally honest! But I do appreciate the extra space and whatnot now that I have an OSD with GPS and everything I need to shove in there. I’ll put together the AXN eventually, sadly I’m probably the only person who flies a foamie at the local club, or a belly-lander, so I can’t start any impromptu spot-landing competitions or ask people to limbo-dance with their planes! Oh well!

And that’s why I prefer the AXN to the Bixler. The AXN flies perfectly right out of the box. The Bixler needs extra carbon, a fist-full of washers pulled out of the nose, better hardware and a different prop. How much of the original do you have left after all those mods and upgrades?

With that said, I also have an AXN on the shelf at home + a box of the parts required to build it, just in case I crash my Bixler. Looks like the AXN comes with great props already, they look identical to the TGS props I have. Very stiff and just the right size, no wonder why the AXN flies better out of the box.

I maidened my Bixler the other day, and then flew it again three times the same day. I’ve only had little experience with 4ch planes, but that thing was super easy to fly and I had no trouble landing nose in or anything. Really nice plane, but I do suggest people ditch the included prop and go for a TGS 6×4 + a collet adapter. Also, put carbon rods down the fuselage and inside the control surfaces. Feels very rigid and secure. I see myself having lots of fun with it in the future.

HK ships to California but not to Alaska? Weird.

Changing to a 6×4 prop makes a big difference

Sorry, confused the two. Yes, the AXN was faster. : )
Only by 5mph or so, though.

I find it hard to believe that a stock Bixler is faster than a stock AXN. The Bixler’s I’ve seen have had somewhat underwhelming performance.

I’m sure he’d be fine with that. Yes, the Bixler is quite a bit bigger which, in our case, translates to more wing loading. There is another youtube video comparring the two, and he said that the bixler glided better and (both being stock) was faster.
Which one flies longer with a 2200? Does anyone know? Id like to get some good, long ariel footage with one using a #16 808 HD Keychain Cam.

I have both a bixler and a axn, but being a newbei (under 6 months) the axn willbe or is my son’s who I am teaching how to fly. I post my thoughts after i fly it as soon as I have a chance, the bixler is bigger with more room for stuff the axn is very small in comparson the bixler shell is thicker than the axn and during train my son has dived the bixler a few times the wings do flex good i did reenforce everything everyone showed on utube. I give a update in a few as long a xjet ok with that.

I don’t have a Bixler/Skysurfer but all the ones I’ve seen flying have been “underwhelming” in their performance and durability. The good thing about the AXN is that you can fly it in any weather and they’re very hard to destroy. The Bixler seems a lot more frail, has bad hardware and won’t handle nearly the same amount of wind.

Is it better than the Skysurfer (Bixler)? What’s your opinion?

It’s way more underpowered but supposed to be easier to learn…

Does anyone know where i can buy this floater jet, but as a kit? No motor, servos, esc and battery. Hobby King wanted to double the price of their kit with the shipping. It seems so hard to find a kit even though they seem to be very popular rc builds.

I tried Himodel but, there was no way to purchase anything. Maybe the google browser I have but, no. Oh well, I bought a EZ star from Amazon. It was quick and on the way. Close to the same flight characteristics I suppose….:)

That’s really weird. I wonder why HK is shutting down on us. I got my AXN from there about a month ago and they shipped to Alaska. And yes, himodel has it, but it’s ten more bucks…

I think this is a great flyer, but I need more room, to put FPV gear till you get your back pack going! is there a good airplane out there that will give me the room with out killing me in cost?
