The SWMAC has been grounded by a bunch of grumpy old men in our national model-flying body Model Flying New Zealand (MFNZ) and the South Waikato District Council (SWDC) They’ve said that our evil baby-killing AXNs are far too dangerous to be flown near people or over delicate steel and iron buildings. Meanwhile, on one side of the field we have 6-year-olds in gokarts zooming around their track at 60mph and at the other, we have people launching their Motox bikes several meters into the air while traversing huge jumps at great speed. But 500g of foam — ooh… that’s *far* too dangerous and must be banned. Watch for a full explanation of the situation coming up soon on the xjet channel. If you’re a FaceBook user you can voice your comments on the local paper’s facebook page at: www.facebook.com links: www.mfnz.org.nz http

A newer subscribers from Los Angeles here. I have been working my way through your videos and have found them to be very interesting, also very funny at times. I particularly like the times when planes have broke and it was noted they needed just a “buff” or “polish” to set things right. Man that had me almost crying with laughter. Your videos have put Tokoroa on my radar and for many others around the world too. The ban is ridiculous. Someone in power is jealous I think, some small minded jerk.

So is there any other place to fly in your area? I heard a real airplane in the background of this video. This could be one of the reasons why you are banned. Flying with in 3 miles of an airport is against AMA regulations in the USA. Just thought I would add that in.

Ridiculous.
There seems to be a global negative attitude towards model aviation. In the U.S. The FAA would like to simply shut us down in the US if they could get their way.

With all your mates below, you should be able to find another flying site. The internet is great that way, miracles just happen…

It’s idiots like SWDC that prove the case for Euthanasia. It’s a shame that these “people” are allowed to get their “jollies” by spending their lives scheming about how to stop people doing things instead of working on how to support them. The whole world is now seeing what a pathetically uninformed and ignorant bunch your Council is. All our support from our group of Aussie Flyers.

Getting CAA back in their comfort zone must be the primary goal – they are particularly “risk averse” at the moment.
If a good solution is not found quickly and presented to them as a united front from all users of the field/MFNZ – there will be no winners.

The MFNZ have blundered into a minefield but it will not help our hobby/SWMAC to chuck grenades after them. The real issue is not even SWDC (they will blow with the prevailing PR wind) – it’s the strategic blunder MFNZ made in dragging CAA into the melee (when CAA just passed them the letters expecting them to sort it out).

In all these postings I’ve simply tried to counter assertions with facts (having spent 10 days there in January 2012), point out the realities of Tokoroa Airfield and how SWMAC actually ‘works,’ what a valuable resource Bruce is to our global community of modellers and how he/ SWMC have put Tokoroa on the map. Whilst its tempting to hurl abuse, lets keep the focus on finding out what is really going on here (who is grinding what axe and why).

I’ve made a posting on the South Waikato News facebook page (not easy from China!), the 3 News Comments section and , having joined/signed in to the MFNZ website made 3 contributions under Forums/SWMAC Closedown – which to their credit they accepted. Tried to access the SWDC website many times but without success.
